Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion #5 Review –“When the Storm Goes Rogue!”

Intro

When I heard about Flash’s Rogues getting their own tie-ins for Forever Evil, I was pretty happy. Because I really enjoyed these characters’ time in reading The Flash series, especially during The Flash Annual #1 or the Gorilla Grodd arc. Those issues really did a good job on fleshing out who these characters are and how different they are than the usual villains. I got to noticed that they really don’t like to harm innocent people and they only want to steal. So, seeing them have a heart is what I really like about them. But since reading the tie-ins I have grown to like the characters even more and they kind of remind me of The Superior Foes of Spider-Man, which is another great series you should try reading. I just hope the support of these issues will ring the bell for the Rogues to have their own series. It’s really worth giving this series that much of a try and this is their best issue yet.

Story

After discovering The Royal Flush Gang is holding Glider captive, they decided to fight any threat that comes their way to save her.

The Good

We get some great character development and a lot of good action especially at the very end. You can really see how tactical or strong the Rogues can be even if it’s a certain Crime Syndicate character they have to fight. I also like how these characters will try anything to save someone they really care about more than themselves. It’s like they are a real family.

The art in this issue is pretty impressive. I think it’s the best art yet and mainly because it’s not from multiple artists like the other issues. Scott Hepburn does a really good job especially on the action. There’s great blur and elemental effects and I love the use of the color red for the blood and anything else in this book. The art is really that great.

The Bad

Considering the Royal Flush Gang didn’t get any character development I doubt anyone they will be up against will get any in the next issue. I’m really kind of disappointed because this is the first time that most of them are in the new 52 and it might not be a while to see them again. It’s just as if they were a bunch of fill-in characters.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4/9 out of 5/10 stars. It’s a really great issue that has great character development to the Rogues. You really get to see their strengths and weakness or how far they are willing to go. The art is very phenomenal here. There’s a lot of great action scenes that you will love to see. The only disappointment here is that there’s no character development to anyone they are facing and since that happened, it looks like the next issue won’t either. Especially since they are facing new villains and it’s the very last issue of the tie-in. But I think you should this pick this issue up because it’s the best one so far and you would definitely want to tune in the next one. Plus, it can maybe wake up DC to make an actual series to for them because these characters are definitely a cast that deserves one. They really need to make it happen.
