Batman 66’ #19 Review –“If Batman Is Right Here, Then what’s Bruce Wayne Doing There?”

Story

False Face has disguised himself as Bruce Wayne and has sold a fake jewelry to the national bank. Commissioner Gordon also finds out about the report and is on his way to arrest Bruce Wayne. So, will he let the cops arrest him or prove them wrong?

The Good

I really liked this issue a lot. It was definitely a pick up than the last few bad ones. I wonder what Bruce Wayne will do to convince Commissioner Gordon and the cops in the next issue. False Face even though he seems to be like another Clayface, he has a totally different personality. The art was really good on this one too. The jokes and the action seemed to be okay because they didn’t have much emphasis on the digital features, it was just blinking dialogue.

The Bad

The only bad thing was that I didn’t like Riddler’s look in this issue. He looked sort of different and strange.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4.8/9.8 out of 5/10 stars. I think this an intriguing issue that you should definitely pick up.  If you interested into knowing who False Face is then keep tuning in. Like I said before I wonder what Batman/Bruce Wayne and Robin have up their sleeve. And I hope this series can keep this momentum for the next couple of issues.

Batman 66’ #18 Review –“The Russian with No Love”

Story

Olga, Queen of Cossacks has gone after Batman and Robin after arresting her lover, Egghead. Now she feels lonely and wants Batman to be the new King and lover. So, will Batman surrender to her love?

The Good

There wasn’t anything I particularly liked in this issue. It was really boring in my opinion.

The Bad

I honestly think this was the worst issue in the series. It was absolutely boring and Olga doesn’t really pose a big threat since she only wanted Batman. She seems to be another uninteresting villain from TV series. Again, the quality has gone down so the action falls very flat without digital features. The jokes were corny and for some reason the art was really bad. The characters looked a lot less detailed than ever before, like even
Barbara Gordon didn’t look like herself.

Verdict

I give this issue a 1/1 out of 5/10 stars. It’s another issue I don’t see worth getting. It’s the most disappointed one as a matter of fact. I think this series has truly lost its value after a few bad issues. Thankfully, the next issue puts it back on track to a worth reading issue. But this series has to pick it up because it won’t last long if it’s inconsistently good.

Action Comics #25 Review –“Can the Young Superman Stop a Hurricane?”

Story

It’s Zero Year in Superman’s Action Comics! And it starts off Superman trying to stop a hurricane without most of his powers.

The Good

This is the issue I was really anticipating because it was being written by Greg Pak. The wonderful writer whose written all those great Hulk and Hercules books. Anyways as I read this issue, he already does a great job with a young Superman. I really like the cockiness Superman who thinks he’s good at everything when he knows he’s not. I also liked that we really get to see the struggle that Superman gets when dealing with his powers. It really shows how much he’s grown and how young and immature this Superman can be. This is what was definitely missing with Grant Morrison’s story with Superman and it’s the reason I even barely liked it. I kind of hope /wish he continues writing young Superman because he’s really good at this. Even though the art was bad at times there was times it was really good especially at the splash pages with the hurricane.

The Bad

I really didn’t like this interpretation of Lana Lang. She was really indecisive and a jerk, I couldn’t tell if she really liked Clark or she was happy or scared from saving people from the boat. I know she was this way in Smallville TV series which is why didn’t like here there. I only seem to like Lana in Superman the Animated Series. So, maybe that is her character. The art was also very inconsistent, she had totally different looks from the main and short story and some the small panels were really bad too.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4/8 of 5/10 stars. The story was a little okay on the hurricane part. It was just the personality and the struggles that Greg did on Superman I really liked. It’s Superman you have wanted to read for a very long time. The short story is also something to look forward to in the next issue.  So, this is definitely an issue worth picking up and keep tuning in.

Action Comics Annual #2 Review –“The Superman Family That’s Too Stupid To Get Along”

Story

The Superman Family is pulled into a portal that leads them to Krypton. As they landed they discovered H’El many failed attempts to save Krypton creating multiple alternate realities.   Now it’s up to them to fix the time stream of their doomed planet!

The Good

It’s an interesting concept that fall apart from bad writing really fast. Not even the art can be stable, because there are points where it’s really good then there’s points where it’s really bad. I guess all I can like is the Man of Steel Easter egg for Faora and I really liked her personality.

The Bad

Here’s another bad issue with Scott Lobdell’s bad writing. The thing that bothers me the most is the too much banter and idiocracy the Superman family has. First, Supergirl can’t tell how much destruction H’el has caused after Oracle just showed her. Then second, Superman can’t tell what’s happening to Superboy meanwhile he has X-ray vision and finally, Superboy throws a temper tantrum attacking everything when Faora told him not to. And the banter comes from all the idiocracy they threw at each other. So, this issue is just really all bad altogether! It’s also strange that since Superboy comes from after Forever Evil timeline, he never mentions anything to Superman being dead or anything that’s going on in Earth. I guess he didn’t really care on what was going on over there. I also didn’t get when Laura Lor-Van does not recognize why he looks some much like her husband at all.

Verdict

I give this issue a 2/3 out of 5/10 stars. I really don’t see this arc to be really interesting. Mainly, because it’s already off to a bad start. It was too much banter and idiocracy distracting the chance of a really good story. I really don’t see the interest in picking this up unless you want to tune into the world of Krypton. But maybe since the Superman family is separated they can save themselves from all the banter and idiocracy for the next issue. But if not then let’s call it a bad ride from the past.

Batman 66’ #17 Review –“Gasp! Batman Is Really Bruce Wayne?

Story

The Bookworm is on a trail for items to prove that Bruce and Dick really are Batman and Robin. So will he convince to the world their secret identities?

The Good

Once again there’s nothing good but the art.

The Bad

I didn’t like this issue either. It had the same problems as the last issue. I don’t think this arc needed to be a two-part story. Also saying Dick and Bruce are on vacation really shows they aren’t Batman
and Robin. *Rolls eyes with sarcasm*

Verdict

I gave this issue a 2/3 out of 5/10 stars as well. It’s another boring Bookworm issue. It had the same complaints as last time, no action, dialogue or digital features. And since they really didn’t step it up next issue, I am really losing hope on this series. It really started with a strong run and now this series can’t seem to hold on any longer. I’m sure you won’t miss much you start skip this issue either.

Batman 66’ #16 Review –“This Is Why People Never Read Novels, They Are Such a Bore!”

Story

The Bookworm invades Robin’s speech about donating money to The Gotham City Library and takes the checkbook with him. As Batman and Robin prepare to go after him, Bookworm discovers a book that has every known history of Batman. So will he ever find out Batman’s secret identity?

The Good

It’s another dubbed down issue with the only good thing is the art.

The Bad

I really don’t know what’s going on with this series. It’s really going on a downhill. Once again, boring dialogue, no action, no jokes or digital features. The Bookworm seems to be another uninteresting villain too. I also don’t understand Batman and Robin’s love for playing celebrity; shouldn’t it be blandly obvious they are Dick and Bruce? And why would Batman have a book lying around in the library that can reveal his identity?

Verdict

I gave this issue a 2/3 out 5/10 stars. This series is lately becoming a big disappointment. I don’t know what’s really happening here. We had a good issue last time. But now it’s back to being a Debbie downer. And what is it with no digital features again? Has the quality really gone down? If you don’t like Bookworm then I suggest you skip this one and the next one. You definitely won’t miss much.

Batman 66’ #15 Review –“Eartha Kitt, Catwoman Returns!”

Story

Commissioner Gordon hires his daughter to take over the Gotham Library. As it turns out Madame Kugar, the library’s interior decorator is Catwoman and it’s up to Batgirl to stop her. So, will Catwoman will be able to steal the Tiger Topaz or not?

The Good

I really enjoyed this issue.  It definitely step-up a notch from the last three issues. They had good use of the digital features especially when Batgirl and Catwoman are fighting. It rotates back and forth with the puffed air in the background. So, it really looked like they were fight. The art was very good as well with a lot of flashing colors. The story was great though, I even liked the dialogue and the idea of this Catwoman having her own secret identity. Because Eartha Kitt didn’t have in the TV series. So, it’s nice to distinguish her as her own character. I also liked that everyone was in-character. This was a perfect issue all around.

The Bad

I couldn’t find anything bad in here at all.

Verdict

I give this issue a 5/10 out of 5/10 stars. It’s a perfectly fun issue. You should definitely pick this one up. It had tons of great action and dialogue. It was great to see Eartha Kitt in this series, because she definitely had a personality of her own as Catwoman in the TV series. This is why she is a fan favorite. I was really afraid wasn’t going to be a part of this series because we already had the other Catwoman.  So, it great to have both characters in the series now and I’m hoping for them to actually meet. If you liked Eartha Kitt as Catwoman, then you definitely wouldn’t want to miss this issue!

Batman 66’ #14 Review –“Steven, Wake Up! What...What...I Thought We Were Done With This Story!?”

Story

Sandman has captured Batman and Robin to find out the secret location of the Batcave. Meanwhile this crooks are stealing jewelry and people’s primed possessions as the city has turned to sleep from Sandman’s sleeping gas. Will Batman and Robin escape their dream or will he reveal the location of the Batcave?

The Good

I don’t think there was anything good besides the art.

The Bad

I don’t know what happened to the digital features? They didn’t apparently use them in this issue either. This is another boring issue with Sandman. Once again there weren’t that many action scenes and no posing threat. I didn’t even see Batman saving the city. He just beats up Sandman as soon as he wakes up, story end.

Verdict

I gave this issue a 2/3 out 5/10 stars. I really don’t know what’s going on with this series. The quality has really dubbed down here. Barely any action, jokes or digital features to hold on to. I don’t see this issue is worth getting at all. Its better off you wait to the next issue with Batgirl, that issue is tons of fun.

Batman 66’ #13 Review –“The Story That Really Makes You Sleep”

Story

The Sandman kidnaps Chief O’ Hara and it’s up to Batman and Robin to save him. So, will they find him or will they be captured instead?

The Good

It’s another boring issue that ends up being worse than the last. The only good thing here is the art and I like the new colors for Sandman’s coat. Because the brown or khaki color never worked for him in the TV series.

The Bad

This story felt like a snooze or maybe because Sandman is doing to me. (Laughs) But seriously, there are no funny jokes, boring dialogue or digital features which, is strange. I thought they would use it especially when Sandman enters his mind.  There was no action here either and The Sandman seems to be a boring villain.

Verdict

I gave this issue 2/3 out of 5/10 stars. It’s a pretty boring story that really makes you fall asleep. If the story doesn’t interest you, you can definitely skip this one and the next one because the story continues. You won’t miss much and you’re better off waiting until the Batgirl storyline.

Batman 66’ #12 Review –“The Clock Is Ticking.”

Story

After capturing The Mad Hatter, Batman and Robin discovered that someone has been tinkering with the clock tower in London. It turns out to be The Clock King! So, will they stop Clock King’s evil-doing?

The Good

I felt this issue was just simple, nothing really spectacular went on. It still had good art and use of digital features.

The Bad

This issue was the typical good guys goes after bad guys and wins story which was the main problem. There were no funny jokes anywhere and Batman and Robin had no struggles to fight. It was just all too easy. They didn’t add anything to The Clock King besides being Mad Hatter’s brother which doesn’t change anything. It just became too boring with this story.

Verdict

I give this issue a 3/7 out of 5/10 stars. It’s a simple boring story with nothing exciting happening. You probably won’t miss anything if you skip this book. But if you do it won’t be a total waste because this story isn’t terrible. It’s just too simple.
