All-New X-Men #23 Review –“When a Disney Princess Takes a Rise into an Empire!”

Intro

Since the last time, I reviewed All-New X-Men it still manages to be a pretty great series even despite of its ill-fated Battle of the Atom event. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good event with interesting characters and future plotlines, but it ended on a very bad note. The many problems with event were that towards the end it started to rush with too many characters and bad art making everything convoluted. We just didn’t enough exploration of the characters and the universe they lived in and how the characters got to that point. Many of characters were left in mystery and never getting resolved or a spotlight. Hopefully the No More Humans OGN will make up for that in the near future. If you felt the same way, just look out for that sometime in May. Now, the young X-men are finally meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy and the entire Shi’ar Empire for the first time. It’s been a pretty fun and interesting to see the characters interact with a little humor element added to it. This is one story you should definitely look into picking up. You have a really fun time.

Story

The young X-Men are meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time and discussing how to save Jean Grey. Meanwhile Jean Grey is dealing with the Shi’ar to prepare her first trial.

The Good

This storyline is really starting to pull me in. We are really getting to see why Shi’ar holding Jean Grey captive. It’s a really good take to see what’s going on. There’s a lot of neat humor especially with Iceman and Rocket Raccoon, which will definitely make you laugh.  Plus, there’s a return of one character that was long thought dead. You might know who it is because he’s already been revealed in the announcement of a young Cyclops solo series, which I’m looking much forward to.
The art is also done pretty well here. It had a lot of great use of colors and solid details on the characters’ face expressions and gestures. There are also a specific Jean Grey two page panels that look really beautiful.

The Bad

Even though the art was beautiful there were a few panels that had some awkward looking faces that weren’t as detailed as the others. But this can be very nitpicking for everything to be perfect.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4.8/9.8 out of 5/10 stars. There are a lot of great interactions with the characters and pretty neat art to look at. This one great story that need to be told and I am really hoping this event turns out better than the last. If you really looking forward to Sci-fi X-Men story that hasn’t been done in a while then I suggest to pick up this issue and follow the rest of the story. You will definitely have a great time with it.
