Magneto #9 Review –“The Intimidation of a Threat.”

Overview

Magneto has been one of the most gratifying series I look forward to every month. Cullen Bunn has made Magneto to a very deep emotional man who cares deeply for his kind or anyone who’s innocent against their predators. Bunn has found way to make me feel for this man and sometimes I even feel admiration for this man’s pride, because he takes no hesitation whatsoever to eliminate any threat. Magneto is also a man who has experienced a dark past with being a Jew during the Holocaust which Bunn truly captures as a great emotional historical piece. It really allows us to feel bad not just for this fictional character’s experience, but the experience of what the Jews did during the times of our past. It’s what I like the most in the series because it makes realize how lucky we are to live to way we are now because other people have had it way worse than we ever did. Another, great thing Bunn does is that he actually acknowledges how Magneto’s personality has changed or evolved over the years. He really shows that his man has changed the error of his ways for the better. So, he no longer hates all humans or blame all of them for the sake a certain few humans who lack sympathy for any other humans or mutants or any intelligent species in general and he actually shows care for anyone he has to save or feel endangered by a threat no matter who they are or where they come from. This makes me appreciate the man even more because it goes to show that any flawed man who was misunderstood can change himself to become a better man and we are also able to forgive what he has done in the past. I also actually appreciated that Marvel has not decided and probably not going to, to change Magneto into a fully blown villain ever again. It truly defines that characters can go to an actually character development that permanently changes the character and never has to go to the original status quo. So, for a character has gone through a great change is definitely something you check into. It’s a great series that’s deeply emotional and a historical piece and once again this issue proves that. It definitely one of the best issues I read and it even shows that this man isn’t as powerful as we thought he is.

Story

After hearing about mutants being imprisoned and threaten in Genosha, Magneto goes in there to investigate who is behind all this and what is actually going on.

The Good

This is definitely one issue to look into. It was great to see Magneto to walk into Genosha and truly relive the dark past experience he had during the holocaust. Genosha really reminded him of the dark times where he was forced to burn the corpses of his own Jewish heritage kind and now for him to see that mutants and inhumans are forced to do the same thing he was once had to do was truly tragic. It even makes me think back to our historical history and make me feel even sadder for the Jews traumatized experience. It’s also nice to see Magneto in true anger when he finds out about the Red Skull has been doing to Charles Xavier. He really shows how deeply he still cares for his endearing friend that means so much to him.  Another, great thing is when Magneto brings out some type of phobia when he sees Red Skull because it reminds of a man who always brought in fear and doubt during his times in the holocaust. It really makes me realize that Magneto isn’t an all-powerful man and somehow his past haunts him to this very day and to see a man who can fear of someone that is maybe a lesser or weaker man than him is truly daunting. It really brings out the true power of what a phobia can do to a man.

Gabriel’s art maybe not great detail in action or character models, but he does a great job on the face expressions. He really shows the great fear into Magneto’s eyes when he relives his experience or when he falls into the phobia. It really makes me even in deep sadness to see the expressions in Magneto’s face and even in the face of innocent people he meets in Genosha. Gabriel does a great job in bring out your true emotions from the characters’ feelings.

The Bad

There’s nothing I can find really bad in this issue. The only thing I can say is that Gabriel needs to work on his action detail. It’s really not that expansive and not much detail into what’s going on. It’s what Gabriel needs to work on in his art style. But other than that his art usually comes out great and I can see that he has a talent in face expressions.

Theme

The theme in this issue is Phobia. Phobia is an extreme fear over something that may have hurt you through trauma when you experienced it for the first time. The curious phenomenon is how the person, place or thing can even be weaker than you can somehow make you feel underpowered or weaken by the fear of it. It truly shows the power a phobia can have. Phobia can even trigger experiences or memories that gave you dark fear within you. This is what I saw in Magneto, he was afraid of Red Skull because of man he reminded him as in a dark past. He even forgot how much power he can over this man. The phobia really made this man feel so powerless and threaten over a man who can potential have lesser power than him.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4.8/9.8 out 5/10 stars. This issue is a great emotional historical piece. It really allows us to see through Magneto’s eyes to what he has experienced back then and even now. Bunn does a good way of showing Magneto go through all emotions of fear, doubt, anger and sadness. It really makes you feel for Magneto or any of mutants or inhumans experiencing this tragedy. I also love to see that Magneto still has his past haunts him and even a man like Red Skull can bring out his phobia. It’s really amazing me how can someone bring out that power over him. Not only the story brings in the emotions, but the art from Gabriel does it as well. It does a great job on showing the characters’ face expressions that truly brings the emotions out of you. The only downside of this issue is the undetailed action. But anything besides that is phenomenal. This is one issue that’s definitely a must buy. It really brings those deep dark emotions of sadness and the fact that it brings relevance to our history makes it perfect. It was definitely one of my picks of that week. I really recommend you get this issue. It will really satisfy you.

Fantastic Four #10 Review –“Weakness in Separation.”

Overview

Since James Robinson has jumped on board, Fantastic Four has been in one emotional roller coaster. With Johnny losing his powers, Thing in jail for “murdering” puppet master and Reed and Sue separated from their children because of once too many lies and an endearing consequence that destructed the entire the city, the separation between the groups is keeping them at bay and making them go through emotional rifts. Robinson has given them a struggle to dealing with their problems and it keeps us intrigued by feeling compassion and sadness for what they are going through and the story is keeping us at the edge of our toes to hope these heroes can strive for the better someday. So, it’s an emotional story telling that very compelling. I honestly feel the writing of the Fantastic Four has been its best since Jonathan Hickman. It’s been a really great series and I hope it keeps it pulling me because I love deep emotional stories especially with the Fantastic Four which are heroes that has brought its greatness through family. So, it looks like Robinson it keeping the family separated in darkness and hoping something will keep them together which I feel is great because that what the Fantastic Four has always been about. But it’s not just the writing that gives the emotional feel, it’s also Leonardo Kirk beautiful art that gives great emotional face expressions that shows us how these characters feel and it allows to feel great sympathy for the characters deep emotion. He also does great action and everything else is just in great detail to give beautiful artwork. So, overall it’s very compelling series that has good writing and art. So, it’s one series people should look out for and buy for a good read. But, sadly this week’s issue must have went through a rough patch of bad storytelling and a bad replacement artist that doesn’t capture the same emotional feel as Kirk. So, be prepared for a bad issue which you may avoid of not getting or enjoy as usual.

Story

As Thing is in jail, he talks to Sharon (She-Thing) of the whereabouts to where she’s been, Johnny is out partying to keep himself together. Reed struggles to fights off the Frightful Four all by himself as Sue looks for her children.

The Good

There’s not much of anything good in this issue. It’s filled with bad storytelling that looks rushed and unorganized. So, I guess all I can say is that it’s nice to find out about where Sharon’s been and at least the story plot moves forward with a surprise guest.

The Bad

I did not like this issue at all mainly because it has really bad storytelling and they weren’t giving good logical reasons for these characters to feel a certain way. For example, Sharon was mad at Thing for being there when she never contacted him when she had problems with her life. She just expected Thing to magically know and go over to her to solve her problems. I guess the problem was that this character hasn’t been around for a long time and Robinson was itchy for a reason for her to be there and he couldn’t find a good one. Another thing that bothered me is dragging of telling where she’s been because she kept hitting him as she’s telling him. I feel Robinson should have just avoided the action and focus on telling the backstory. It really feels unnecessary to them to be fighting as she is telling the story. They don’t even explain how Sharon gets to jail, she just is.  Another example of the non-logical reasoning is Reed fighting off Frightful Four which a bunch D-liters that Reed usually defeats just using his tech or intelligence. But the reason he can’t win is because of unexplained magic or he can think straight because Sue isn’t there. It kind of makes Reed undependable or defenseless for every situation when he usually isn’t. I guess Robinson should have given time to explain how the Wizard got the magic for us to understand why Reed is defenseless. Another thing that bothered me is Johnny thinking of his college friend is being concerned because Reed and Sue “told him to”. But gee you couldn’t think that maybe he’s feeling concerned because he’s your "best friend" and that "he worries about you"? It’s just a lot un-logical reasoning’s going on that makes the Fantastic Four look like they stuck on stupid.

Another bad thing in this issue is the art. Marc Laming had really bad trouble with the face expressions because they were static and looked the same when the characters are feeling mad, sad, etc. It seems like I can’t even tell if they were yelling when they were. Also the action layouts were just unorganized and sloppy. It just had one hit across the page and the next thing you know the characters are on the floor with just that one hit. So, it seems that this replacement artist is trying to rush in the issue to just get it done. Plus, the art is nowhere near as good as the previous artist which makes me feel disappointed and out of place.

Theme

The theme in this issue is “someone to lean on”. When people are going through their problems and things get too rough that they depend on someone to support them or be there to get their spirits up or remind themselves that they can do better. But sometimes people feel their friends are too sucked up on their own problems that they can’t help their problems. So, it makes them go through deeper rift of losing themselves and making the problems bigger. This is what I saw with the Fantastic Four, all of them are trying to things by themselves. But when things get rough they looked to the other side to see that something’s there but it isn't. So, they get into the deeper hole to lose themselves like for example Johnny without his powers is useless, thus he feels like he’s wasting him being around Reed, Sue and Ben.

Verdict

I give this issue a 2/5 or 4/10 stars. It’s not a really good issue. The unexplained logical reasoning’s is giving room for bad storytelling. It just rushing to get the plot forward to the end and everything seems to be filled with nonsense in the middle. Marc Laming does a terrible job on telling the emotional compelling story that this series usually tells it. A lot the face expressions are face less with no movements and the action is so unorganized it looks like a quick and be done with it job. So, the art isn’t concise or detailed as other issues. I guess it was just a rough week to get this issue done. So, sadly this issue might not be worthy of a pickup if you’re stretching for enough comics to buy. But if you want to know what’s going on you can pick it up, you just might not enjoy it or think it’s your money’s worth. It’s just saddens me to see a series I love go through a rough patch. I just hope it will get good again in the next issue. So, it’s really up to you if you want to pick this up.

Ms. Marvel #8 Review –“The Wonderful Adventures of Ms. Marvel and Lockjaw!”

Overview

Ms. Marvel has been a very exhilarating series filled with loads of fun and entertainment. I have immediately love Kamala Khan’s personality since the first issue. She is a very lovable character that tries to really hard to fit the new world she’s in. It’s really hard for her to fit in with herself into school because she’s sort of a comic book geek and she comes from a Muslim/Islamic background that’s really different than what people of interpret of recent comings. Plus, she has a new found power about being an inhuman that she just finding much about. So, now that she has school, culture and superhero antics to fit into. It comes off as a challenge struggle to find her place in the world and looks like she has a start. I also love her sense of bravery and she really tries hard to saving people and fighting the dangers of villains. What I find most interesting thing about this series, is the aspects of the Muslim religion. This book has good positive influences of this religion’s belief systems that can hold a good sense of faith and confidence for all people no matter where they come from. It shows that this religion is really not bad at all and that people have often misrepresented what this religion is all about. It’s really similar to all sorts of other religions but they just do things a little different. That’s why I love this series because it goes against all the misrepresentations of Muslims in America and it shows people that they aren’t “terrorists”. They are all just like everyone else who is just trying to enjoy life. Ms. Marvel also has a great supporting cast of friends and family who stand up and believe in her or care about her in every way. This series also has a sense of charm and humor that really makes me laugh with happiness and it makes me look forward to this series every month. I also think if you haven’t checked this series out, you should check the issues featuring Wolverine. It really brings out a good dynamic relationship in these two that makes them into a good team. It really puts a warm place in my heart. So, if you’re looking for a series that all about fitting in this world which, everyone has a problem with, then I highly suggest you check this series out. Even this issue should be worth checking out because good issue that shows Ms. Marvel’s heroism and plus there’s Lockjaw, isn’t he the cutest!? (Laughs)

Story

While Ms. Marvel is investigating the whereabouts of the Inventor she bumps into Lockjaw and takes him to an adventure of saving people being kidnapped as she finds something mysterious about her powers.

The Good

I believe this is a really good issue. It’s very nice to see the relationship of Ms. Marvel and Lockjaw grows. They seem to have a great bond and it’s something you will really have fun and enjoy seeing. This issue is also very funny especially the situations of how Kamala’s parents and brother react to Ms. Marvel keeping Lockjaw. The things they say are off the wall funny. I also like the sense of bravery Kamala is getting to find ways to saving people in any means necessary. It really shows her aspects of being a hero and I like how she and her friend, Bruno are putting their investigating skills to the
test.

Adrian Alphona does a great job with the art. There are some great action scenes with Ms. Marvel and Lockjaw that really shows some nice teamwork. There’s some great work with the face expressions on the characters facing especially how her parents react to Lockjaw or how Kamala’s head blows up like a balloon she hurts herself. It really brings out the humor in this book.  I also think Ian Herring did a great job with the colors like the shades of blue when Lockjaw teleports or when Kamala tries to save the boy or the robot’s visor. He really puts the use of unique colors in places where they can shine.

The Bad

There’s only minor gripes in this issue that doesn’t really bother me too much, like why would Kamala Khan introduce Lockjaw to her family when she’s trying to keep her secret identity from her family and wouldn’t that make them suspicious especially when she’s out there fighting bad guys with Lockjaw where people might actually see? But I feel this is a minor gripe because it did bring out some fun humor moments and situations that I enjoyed.
There are some panels that were less detailed and had some bad art. But again, it’s very minor when the majority of issue has good art and coloring.

Theme

The theme for this issue is heroism. Heroism is a big responsibility to have especially when you’re able to endanger your life for the safety of other’s lives. It also takes a sense of bravery and skill to make effort in being a hero. It can give you pride, but you have to be careful because without skill you can fall into some deep danger and hurt yourself. This is what I saw with Ms. Marvel, she really takes pride in saving these teenagers and some type of bravery to the point where she endangers herself which is something she would need to work on eventually.

Verdict

The give this issue a 4.8/9.8 out of 5/10 stars. It’s a very entertaining issue that will really make you laugh. It has its humorous moments especially with Lockjaw. He really puts a smile in your face. Plus, it’s just hilarious how everyone reacts around him. It’s nice to see how Ms. Marvel puts her bravery to her heart in saving people even when she is hurting herself. Adrian does an amazing art especially when it comes to the action and Ian does a very good job on the colors as well. So, together they really make the art shine in this issue. The only minor gripe is Kamala showing Lockjaw to her parents that can reveal her secret identity. But other than that it brings out the humor in this issue. That’s why it doesn’t bother me much. But I think this is a great issue that I recommend you picking up. It really has some joy you will really love.

Batman Eternal #23 Review –“The Legacy of Gotham”

Overview

Batman Eternal has been a very captivating series even though it gets a bit lukewarm for a certain amount of issues during the months. But that’s because it’s a weekly series and sometimes writers are busy writing other comics. So, it can come out rushed or have different artists because they tend to have their own busy schedules with other comics as well. But overall this has been one of the best weekly series up to date since “52”. So, you can forgive the hurdles it has. There’s been a few great storylines that you can check out like Jim Gordon being put to jail for a crime scene that made him look like he killed an unarmed man. There’s some conspiracy that Falcone was involved with this plan. But it hasn’t been revealed yet. He is also causing a gang war to rule over Gotham and other gangs like Penguin. There are also some characters being affected by this like Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), Red Hood, Red Robin, Batwoman, Batwing, Spectre, Catwoman and the police department.  Basically the entire Bat-family gets shaped up in this series even though it has Batman on the title. It’s one of many reasons why I love this series it’s because you get the insides and outsides of Gotham and see the developments that shape the Batman universe as a whole. I call it the next Gotham Central. Plus, there’s the origin of Spoiler! But besides all the good stuff, today is a bit of a lukewarm issue because it reveals a disappointment of Catwoman’s father. But I highly suggest to still pick up this issue because you would want to know the recent developments of Catwoman.

Story

Catwoman has talks with her to take heir as a crime lord while Batman continues to fight Architect as Gotham City collapses!

The Good

I feel very lukewarm or on the fence with this issue. We finally get to find out who Catwoman’s father is and it’s nice to know why she becomes a Gotham crime lord in future issues. It’s really nice to see how her premises will be building up for her own series as well. It really seems like the end shakes up the core of Gotham literally and I like how all the dots are getting connected. I also like how we got to know a little bit more about Architect’s game plan was. But we still feel gipped on not knowing about who he is.

The Bad

Like I said earlier I’m still on the fence of all this. I’m just disappointed on who Catwoman’s father is because my recent guess was based on someone else because of all the hype the storylines and conflict were panting up for which, I felt it could have built up to a better story in my opinion. Plus, it’s a pathos of pervious origins of Catwoman. There’s also a suspension of disbelief or mystery to who her father is because of the quotes she gives this person as her “father” or maybe it’s because he abandoned her. Anyways I felt like the whole Batman vs Architect should have been pushed aside for next week’s issue because there’s something more that could have been addressed about Catwoman’s father like why we need the story to be centered on him and care about him and this revelation of his crime lord empire. We also didn’t get to know more about Architect either. We only got to know his game plan and why was he doing this. I also couldn’t understand why would Batman let Hush be all alone and wandered off where the people are. I though Batman would at least tie-roped him at he is fighting Architect. So, nothing bad would happen being near people.
As much as I like Dustin Nugyen’s art it was really weak this week. It looks quite rushed. The face expressions on the faces weren’t that much detailed and it needed some kink to it. The action was also a bunch of one hit punches and it really wasn’t that expansive as it should be. Also the characters didn’t look all too familiar. I couldn’t even tell who Catwoman’s father was until his name was mentioned.

Theme

The theme in this issue is legacy. Legacy is the choice of holding or carrying on your family or someone’s past and make it your own. Putting your foot forward and making it to something better like for example, you didn’t like how your father treated you when you were young but it’s still your duty to carry on the family name but try to be a better father than he ever was to your new child. It also doesn’t have to be someone you didn’t like, it can also be someone who you admired and you would like to carry their beliefs to others and you still make changes to applied a better you. This is the theme I saw in catwoman even though she never loved her father. It still her duty to carry on the crime lord legacy of her father, make it as her own and maybe be even better than her father. I kind also saw this in Architect since he mentions a little bit about holding a family’s name.

Verdict

I give this issue a 3.5/7.5 out of 5/10 stars. It’s an average issue that gives off some decent plot points. But I felt it needed to be more detailed and it felt rather rushed this week. I think if they gave us more a story based on who Catwoman’s dad is and why he is important to this story. I also felt this way with Architect as well. Dustin’s art was also a disappointment because it looks rushed and undetailed on the action and faces in general. But overall I still think this is a worthy issue of a pick up because we get to know what Catwoman’s goal in mind is and once again we’re noticing how the plot points are connected like never before. So, I recommend to get this issue to know these revelations.

Injustice Gods Among Us: Year Two #23 Review –“Let Fear Overrule In You!”

Overview

Injustice Gods Among Us: Year Two has been a very jam packed series with loads of great action, even more than its predecessor. Even though there is more action than emotion in Injustice Year One it can still deliver great emotional moments. You will see the bonds of Barbara and Jim Gordon grow and crumble in moments end. You will see the dynamic conflict of the Green Lantern Corps fall apart from a war with the Yellow Lantern Corps and Superman. You will also see how the great rivalry between Black Canary and Superman grow. So, I believe this has been a great series and I hope that these great character relationships I mention will convince you to pick this series up. It’s been a great ride and now we are reaching the climax between the Green Lantern Corps vs. the Yellow Lantern Corps.

Story

After the battle between Black Canary and Superman, Superman finds out he has been recorded and broadcasted over the news Superman causes to wreak havoc on the Green Lanterns. As this is happening Sinestro is influencing Hal Jordan to cause his own hell on the Green Lantern Corps as well.

The Good

Tom Taylor does a great job of how fear can influence the characters to do dangerous things, even things they wouldn’t normally do. There’s great dynamic of Superman and Black Canary that continues to grow. It’s also great to see how Sinestro’s influence can instill in the minds and hearts of Jon Stewart and Hal Jordan.

The art team does a great job on the characters emotions especially with Hal Jordan, Sinestro, Guy Gardner, and Jon Stewart. You can really see how these characters’ feel great rage, fear, and jealously in their hearts. You can also see a lot of different shades of yellow. It really represents how strong the yellow energy runs through these characters.

The Bad

I think there could have been more dialogue or backlash for Hal to show more emotion of jealously and hate to grow towards Guy. It really felt too easily convinced for Hal to believe what Sinestro was saying. Maybe a few more words could have been more convincing like Superman was doing for an example. I also feel that the deaths between the characters are happening too rapidly. There’s no room for characters to convene how they feel about seeing their friends dying and I feel like one character’s death should have been left for the next issue to give the character some breathing room. It really feels like this issue is being rushed. So, they are trying to get rid of three characters deaths in one issue.

Theme

The theme in this issue is influence, which can be good or bad depending on who or what it can come from. Good influence can let out the real you and overcome your fear and achieve greatness while bad influence can cause you to not think things through and can let fear, rage and jealously over run you into doing things you are not.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4/9 out of 5/10 stars. It does a great job of how much power can the Yellow Lantern rings can bring into someone’s mind. Sinestro has great dialogue to bring bad influence over Hal Jordan. But I feel there should have been more dialogue with Hal Jordan to give more emotion effect and convince us a little bit more about why Hal would believe Sinestro. It’s one of many reasons why I was a bit over the fence over this issue. The art is great on the face expressions and you can really see and feel what the characters are feeling. I also feel there should have been more distance between character deaths to give more room to mourn them. But overall, this is a really good issue and it’s worth picking up because seeing these characters fall apart will have your hearts torn and it sets up for the final issue of this chapter next week (Today, actually article was written last week).

The Walking Dead Season 4 Review –“What it is to be Human?”

Intro

Before the time of The Walking Dead, there was a rise of a lot unknown comic book TV shows like Painkiller Jane, Flash Gordon, and Human Target. I invested in these shows because at the time I was at college and I didn’t have time to delve into comics. So, I decided to tune into the comic book TV shows to make up for that. So, when The Walking Dead TV show was announced I decided to tune in because the comic book genre pecked my interest. Ever since then, the show has evolved to one of the best TV shows I have ever seen. What I always liked best about this show is that it’s not just about zombies or survival. It’s really about being human and revealing its darkest side making it, its own kind of monster. Especially with this season showing all aspects of a human being like for example, mental disability and going against your moral senses. Even though, I have yet to read the comic books because I just got back into comics, (I’m catching up on Marvel and DC as of right now, then switching to other companies as I go) my boyfriend helps me from time to time on the differences of the TV show and the comic books. So, I will definitely delve into that with this review. I will compare it, but I wouldn’t say which is better.  What I like this show is that even though there are differences there’s a high caliber of how they are each their best in their own way. So, looking at this season I definitely feel that this show is getting better and better because it shows all aspects of being human and it’s time to dive in the best and worst moments in the season.

Story

After the war with The Governor had ended the citizens of his town had moved into Rick’s prison. Since then, everyone had maintained their way of living until a deadly plague had caused many people to die. Eventually, they found a cure and got ready for their second war with The Governor. After this war, the group got separated and had to find their way to meet again at the Terminus.

The Good

What I like about the most about this season is the great character development. I felt they really did great with it because each character had their roles and sort of separate goals that can relate to each other. They also had risks, morals and change to make them go against what they believed in. Their changes also affected them, emotionally, psychically and psychologically. So since character development was its initial focus I decided to discuss it what the characters had the best and what made them the best to each of their own.

The most memorable character of the season was of course Herschel. Since the time of the plaque came to play almost everyone was sick and people were dropping like flies. Herschel went through incredible feats to make sure everyone was well even if it meant risking his life to getting himself sick. He even went days in and out without sleep making cures to see if they worked on stopping the plague. Herschel helping everyone out even if he had to do all alone made him a remarkable man. He even showed how much he was able to do even for an old man. He also showed how much he cared about people like Glenn, going through massive zombies just to get to them and make sure they were well. I feel the actor did a phenomenal job on Herschel’s will and personality. It definitely marks the season of the most memorable character ever in the show’s history.

I know everyone feels The Governor was this season’s worst development, but I disagree. I felt he was definitely one of season’s greatest character developments. The reason I felt this way is because we got to see his human side. We realized he was not just an evil man. He had somewhat of a good side as well. At the beginning of the season, we see this man all alone to once again having a family. A family that was very much like his own like a wife and daughter. They instantly became his when he grew to save, care and love them. He even guarded the woman he loves’ sister. But, even though he was a well-cared father and husband doing anything to protect them, his selfishness drove him to still be a killer. The selfishness caused him to create an army against Rick’s army. But as this war went on, it caused the loss and the betrayal’s trust of his family and this even drove him wild to lose himself. It really showed how can revenge or a vendetta can really ruin a man and destroy everything he worked so hard for to gain again. I know a lot people were tired of The Governor, but this was a question that needed to be answered and they did a pretty good job at it. Plus, it really gave the character a very good closure. The next character that mostly everyone can agree on was Carol. She is definitely one of the greatest characters that had to go through a massive change in her morals. She had to kill two people (one of them was Karen who Tyreese loved dearly) because of the plague and she didn’t want the disease to spread further. So, she felt like she had no choice and I was so happy that Tyreese found a way to forgive her in the most amazing episode of the season. When I saw this episode I definitely thought it was one of the most heartwarming moments of the show ever.

The Grove was an episode that went through the biggest challenges ever on TV especially during in this time of children killing events. Just seeing Carol realizing it was a mistake to teach Lizzie to kill and she had to once again make that tough choice was heartbreaking.  Another reason I loved this episode was how they made Mika such a sweet, tough and lovable character and we also get to understand Lizzie’s mental state of mind about why she felt a certain way. It definitely made me feel sorry for her. This is an episode I recommend anyone to see if they want to like the show. This episode was also an adaptation of a storyline in the comics, it had some differences like it was two boys instead of two girls and it was Carl who has to make the tough call. But these differences benefited their own unique strengths like Tyreese’s forgiveness for Carol (TV show), the gain and loss of a love for Dale from Andrea and Carl having the choice of killing his best friend, Ben and dealing with the emotional aftermath (comic books).

Michonne is another character that defy great change to the entirely of the character. She definitely went from being a quiet ninja to a funny laid back person she used to be. And it was all because of Carl that brought her back to her old ways. We also get to see a moment’s past that made us feel her pain.  In this season, we also explore other characters’ changes like Rick’s emotion path of still trying to be a leader even though he was losing faith in himself and Carl realizing he still needs his father. There were also some comic book differences in that moment and I felt the TV series made it longer by separating the characters moments of being by themselves to make the dependence of needing each other more meaning and it also lead a plotline that Darryl needed to define his character. Darryl was another character that definitely felt alone too and always tried to fit in and I think this was why his ending chapter was meeting with Rick and Carl because he was just like them. We also get to explore Glenn and Maggie’s love for each other going strong even after losing each other in The Governor’s chaos. It even gave Sasha a defining hope to think that Tyreese wasn't dead. This character definitely challenged my perspective because at first, I disagreed and disliked her for the way she thought. But I started to understand her perspective after much thought and discussion with my boyfriend. We also got to explore Bob’s past that connect the love for Sasha and truly made me had respect for who Bob is as a character. Anyways, I felt all these characters went through heartbreaking moments at best.

The Bad

The most disappointing moments of the season was in an episode called, Still. It was an episode that gave some character development for both Darryl and Beth. I’m glad they made an improvement on Darryl’s development on later episodes. But in this episode, the actor Norman Reedus did a terrible job on acting drunk and I was shocked because he usual pulls off good acting. I guess being drunk isn’t really his forte. With, Beth I felt I couldn’t feel any sympathy for a naive teenager who would risk her life to just find some liquor especially when all she can do is mope and sing. She has yet find in anyway on how she can defend herself. She still relay on people like Darryl to become the white knight to save her. Sometimes I feel she is sort of stupid and just seeing her singing all time shows no potential in the character whatsoever. I really hope in the next season they can make her useful and likable because at this point I can care less of what happens to her and I think almost everyone can relate to me with this character. Another character is Eugene, I really can’t take his supposedly “smart-ass” self seriously at the moment and if they are trying to prove that point, then they are doing a terrible job at selling it.

Verdict

I give this season a 5.4/9.4 out of 5/10 stars. It was a very gratifying season especially with the character development. They made some great moments and took risk in changing characters in new ways and yet I can still find the characters respectful and likable. Most of the actors also did a great job on the acting of the characters. It felt very real and engaging. It really made me feel for the characters because of the realism they gave. The only downside from the season was moments with Darryl and Beth and maybe a few new characters. But besides that, I think this was a worthwhile season to watch and I hope people will tune in and appreciate it. I honestly can’t wait to see what they have in store for Terminus in the next season.

Black Widow #5 Review –“The Itsy, Bitsy Spider Has It's Water Sprout.”

Story

As Black Widow is after Molot, she discovers more secrets about him like what his past is, who does he work for and eventually she discovers another secret that lurks from her past.

The Good

We finally get to learn more about Molot, like getting to know his past and what his goals are and who he is. It becomes really interesting to dive into the history of the character. I really like how Black Widow is willing to study her enemies and tries to find ways to win tactically. I’m really starting to like the relationship Black Widow and Maria Hill have. It looks like they trust each other and know each other very well. I also like this version of Hill because she’s usually written very bitchy in other comics and here she very lay back and relaxed. I also like Black Widow’s new friend, Tori Raven and I hope we get to see her again and know more of her. This story is still very good and I like the new twist on the new threat. It really keeps me on my toes to keep reading this series. Edmonson also has good use of accents in the dialogue and I like how he can make the dialogue funny at times too.

Phil Noto really gives some impressive artwork especially with the face expressions and body gestures. It’s like you really are the characters and understand how they are feeling. Once again, Noto action is very intense and I just love how the action organized and very well done. I also love the color choices he uses on the characters. He has great ways of using black and red and I love the yellow and pink outfit of Tori Raven. It looks very fashionable and fits her character.

The Bad

I really don’t like what happens to Molot and I really hope they will use him again in the future. He would be a great villain to use for other heroes.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4/9 out of 5/10 stars. It’s nice to see Black Widow really use her skills and how she is very smart. You really get to see why she is well trust spy. I’m loving the establishing relationship between the characters and knowing more about the villains. I’m still loving the art and it gives off great action, body language and colors. The only disappointment is about Molot’s conclusion and I hope we see him again somehow. But this issue is still a good read and I recommend buying.
