Intro
Ever since I have read Action Comics in the New 52 it has
been a bumpy ride. There have been some bad issues like in the beginning of
Grant Morrison but by the end his run it got good. Then follow by Andy Diggle,
his run was amazing and the best ever too bad he was only around for four
issues. He really knew how to capture Superman and Lois Lane’s personality
perfectly. Now, we have Scott Lobdell who has taken over, crossover with
Superman title’s Hector Hammond storylines. It’s been an uphill battle with Lobdell
because he some really bad titles to really good ones. So, it’s been
inconsistent. But surprisingly this is one of the good ones.
Story
Superman meets up with the Psycho Pirate to talk about “The
Twenty” – the psychic people that are stuck in the HIVE mind. But eventually
Psycho Pirate tricks into a dream world. So will Superman realize he’s no
longer in reality or will Lois Lane save him this time?
The Good
Surprisingly enough this is a really good issue coming from
Scott Lobdell. Normally, I don’t like his issues (unless it was Red Hood and
The Outlaws). But this one is definitely one of his best. He really knows how
to capture Psycho Pirate’s personality. He reminds me so much of Loki, very
evil and trickery. The art is also good with very nice color details and splash
pages. I think if he continues with Psycho Pirate this can be an intriguing arc
worth picking up.
The Bad
The only problem I had was that Lobdell can’t seem to get
Superman’s personality on the right footing. Superman seems so stiff and I
think Superman would have realize what his parents are saying to him are not
real. Superman’s courage is too strong to allow that to happen.
Verdict
I gave this issue 4/9 out of 5/10 stars. It was a
surprisingly issue I didn’t expect. He did a really good take on Psycho Pirate
and made him into interesting character. There’s also great art, good story and
a mystery to be revealed. I really recommend you jump into this issue and
continuing reading this arc.
