Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion #5 Review –“When the Storm Goes Rogue!”

Intro

When I heard about Flash’s Rogues getting their own tie-ins for Forever Evil, I was pretty happy. Because I really enjoyed these characters’ time in reading The Flash series, especially during The Flash Annual #1 or the Gorilla Grodd arc. Those issues really did a good job on fleshing out who these characters are and how different they are than the usual villains. I got to noticed that they really don’t like to harm innocent people and they only want to steal. So, seeing them have a heart is what I really like about them. But since reading the tie-ins I have grown to like the characters even more and they kind of remind me of The Superior Foes of Spider-Man, which is another great series you should try reading. I just hope the support of these issues will ring the bell for the Rogues to have their own series. It’s really worth giving this series that much of a try and this is their best issue yet.

Story

After discovering The Royal Flush Gang is holding Glider captive, they decided to fight any threat that comes their way to save her.

The Good

We get some great character development and a lot of good action especially at the very end. You can really see how tactical or strong the Rogues can be even if it’s a certain Crime Syndicate character they have to fight. I also like how these characters will try anything to save someone they really care about more than themselves. It’s like they are a real family.

The art in this issue is pretty impressive. I think it’s the best art yet and mainly because it’s not from multiple artists like the other issues. Scott Hepburn does a really good job especially on the action. There’s great blur and elemental effects and I love the use of the color red for the blood and anything else in this book. The art is really that great.

The Bad

Considering the Royal Flush Gang didn’t get any character development I doubt anyone they will be up against will get any in the next issue. I’m really kind of disappointed because this is the first time that most of them are in the new 52 and it might not be a while to see them again. It’s just as if they were a bunch of fill-in characters.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4/9 out of 5/10 stars. It’s a really great issue that has great character development to the Rogues. You really get to see their strengths and weakness or how far they are willing to go. The art is very phenomenal here. There’s a lot of great action scenes that you will love to see. The only disappointment here is that there’s no character development to anyone they are facing and since that happened, it looks like the next issue won’t either. Especially since they are facing new villains and it’s the very last issue of the tie-in. But I think you should this pick this issue up because it’s the best one so far and you would definitely want to tune in the next one. Plus, it can maybe wake up DC to make an actual series to for them because these characters are definitely a cast that deserves one. They really need to make it happen.

Black Widow #3 Review –“When an Undercover Abandons Ship!”

Intro

At the time, I heard Black Widow series being announced I was pretty excited because it’s been a while since the last time she had a series. I also have been enjoying her character in many other series and in the movies so far. So, I think it’s time for her to get her own spotlight and hopefully if this series does well it can maybe be an extra ticket to her own solo movie. Because I feel like she a great character that really deserves one. So far this series has been pretty stellar though. The writer really portrays the character really well and the art is pretty amazing. So, if you would like to learn more about the character I suggest you pick this series up and this issue is pretty fun as well.

Story

Black Widow is on a quest to save the innocents, one turns out not be one at all and the other was worth saving.

The Good

I believe this issue was pretty amazing! Because we get to know a lot about Black Widow on how she stands as a hero. We get to know her moral and how much she cares about people or what kind of role model she is. She also shows it’s not always about the money and how much of a ruthless killer she is. It’s really about the choices she makes sold her character. I also feel that many people may be bothered that there isn’t a main villain or arc in this issue, but the character development really makes for it and plus, the set up for the arc is at the very end. This issue is also very simple for me and
sometimes I like it that way.

The art is really beautiful here and I do really like how Black Widow isn’t sexualize at all and somehow this art looks beautiful without it. The action looks really well done and clean cut too. I think the painting art style is really working out in this book and I hope it stays for a really long time.

The Bad

I don’t think there was anything bad in this issue at all.

Verdict

I give this issue a 5/10 out of 5/10 stars. It’s a great character development issue. It really sets who she is and what she will try to remain for the rest of the series. You can see that she is not the typical ruthless killer and that she can really care about people. The art is simply amazing to look in almost every panel. So, if you want to know who Black Widow is as a character than I recommend you get this issue. I think you should get the other two issues as well even though they are standalone stories that are just great additions to her character. And now since the main arc is starting it’s a great time to jump in.

Constantine #11 Review –“When the Love of Your Life Will Make Your Head Spin!”

Intro

At the time, I read Justice League Dark I found Constantine to be a very interesting character. I really like his snotty charisma attitude that you can’t seem to trust and how he has a soft spot for Zantanna. So, his complexity of a character became an instant favorite of mine. So, when I heard he was getting a New 52 solo series, I was pretty excited and wondered what take will be on it. I never read his Hellblazer series which I hope to check out someday. I keep hearing great things about it so I have to read it. Anyways, since this series has been out for a while, it’s been okay. There hasn’t been that many interesting stories that gives the wow factor in my books. Don’t get me wrong, he does have interesting villains like Sargon, but I think this series can do so much more. And sadly the Forever Evil tie-ins with Constantine makes it the weakest compared to the others. So, this issue still falls in the okay scale and it might be the worst one yet for me.

Story

Constantine and the rest of new Justice League Dark gang are on their way to find Zantanna, but someone from the team turns against them and it’s someone you never expected to be.

The Good

The only good thing looking forward to this issue is the return of many fan favorite characters even
from the beginning of Justice League Dark are teased.

The Bad

This issue is really sort of bad. I’m really disappointed about a certain character I really became interested in since the Forever Evil tie-ins became a total waste. I’m also confused that the character is also chained up in the end like the rest. So, I really don’t know what’s going on. The issue does a really bad job at explaining what’s happening here. And I think you might have to read the next issue to get the clear picture. The issue goes by too quickly and maybe that’s why I am a little lost here. The art looks terrible too. It’s less detailed and mudded and looks like it was just rushed to get it published. It’s like they didn’t have enough time to work on this issue and just threw it in there. It was just really, really bad!

Verdict

I give this issue a 3/5 out of 5/10 stars. It was a really okay issue. I was just disappointed for the development of a certain character and it left me really confused in the end. I just hope what happened in this issue wasn’t totally true and I’m hoping the character stays in team in the future. I also felt that this was the worst issue of the Forever Evil: Blight tie-ins. What makes it worse is that art was really bad and sort of disgusting too, it really didn’t improve the issue at all. The only reason I can see worth buying this issue is if you want to follow through with the story and see what’s going on other than that it’s really bad. I just hope the next issue doesn’t turn out to be this boring either.

Avengers A.I. #9 Review –“Avengers A.I.-ssemble!”

Intro

Since the last time I reviewed this series, it’s been really fun. I continued to love every single issue so far and I hope it keeps going and doesn’t go away. The characters have a great relationship and it’s great that we are learning about every single character in the team. No character feels totally left out in this series. Doombot has officially become my favorite character. His arrogant personality makes me laugh all the time. He’s one funny character and he isn’t really trying to be. That’s what I love about him. Right now we are learning about Alexis. She seems to be interesting character and I’m really tuned in to learn more about her. Also, if you’re looking for a series that’s different than the usual Avengers than I strongly suggest you pick this series up!

Story

While Alexis has been learning about herself with Dimitrios, the rest of the Avengers A.I. with Captain America and Rogue are looking to save Victor and Alexis on Diamond.

The Good

I really thought this was a great issue and I found that surprising because I thought having Captain America and Rogue there was going to damage the book. The chemistry they are giving really meshes well with the other characters. It really caught me by surprise because I was afraid it would turn into some Avengers tie-in madness and drive the A.I. characters away from the focus. But it’s not; Captain America and Rogue just feel like guest stars. Even though, this issue is action-packed it still did pretty well and we got to learn more Alexis. Plus there’s a return of a fan favorite character that would be a great addition to team.

The Bad

Even though, I have been getting use to the art it gets pretty inconsistent. Sometimes it looks really good and sometimes it doesn’t. There’s awfully a lot bad looking action scenes, I only I seem to like a lot is when Avengers A.I. characters assemble to some robot like thing that reminds me of Power Rangers. That picture looks really cool. I just wish they can keep the art looking good in each panel.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4.5/9.5 out 5/10 stars. This issue has still made the series pretty good. I like that the Avenger characters have managed not effect anything. It still has the great humor, great story and action fun that this series always gives. Even if the art is inconsistent at times, I’m still enjoying this book. Also, if you’re a fan of Avengers Academy, then you would definitely love the return of the character in this issue and might want you to check this series out. But if you are a new reader you might want to get the last issue first because it’s a jumping on point and it make you feel lost if you get this issue. This is one series that’s worth checking out.

All-New Invaders #2 Review –“Relationships Are Torn as the Secrets Unfold.”

Intro

Since the announcement of James Robinson writing an “all-new” Invaders series I’ve been pretty excited. Mainly because I loved the dynamic relationship the Invaders had during the Captain America and Bucky series. This team had a great relationship that still pulled through even on the rough patches of death and many secrets. And I would love to see how this team will get together again even though their lives have changed especially with Namor in AVX. I’m also excited for James Robinson to be writing these series, because he really became of my top favorite writers since he wrote the first half of Earth 2 and I wonder what he will have up his sleeve for these characters. I also recommend you pick up the last issue; it will definitely let you know why the team has teamed up as of late.

Story

Captain America, Bucky and Jimmy Hammond finally team up to fight Tanalth and discover long forgotten secrets.

The Good

This issue is still making the series at a very good start as the secrets are revealed. It still shows how the team is and the relationship is never forgotten. They still care for each other even after everything and that’s why I love this team. We also get to find out more of the dark deep secrets and why it was long forgotten. The action is pretty short but still pretty good and drawn very well. The artist has a good use of the fire looking beautiful and everything looks very solid in detail. The only problem is that Captain America’s helmet looks a little weird on him.

The Bad

I think having another story digging in the past might be a bother for some people. Because you might feel it will cause a continuity error. But I think as far as I’m concerned this story won’t get in the way of that and it does it in a good way. I think the destruction caused by Jimmy might be rough for some as well. But it’s explained why it happens.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4.5/9.5 out of 5/10 stars. It’s a great issue that brings the old team together in a new way, discovering new secrets and repairing old relationships. It’s a good team that does well together. The art is pretty good especially at the action scenes and it looks like it might be looking good for a while. The story still manages not to make you feel lost if you didn’t pick up the last issue and you will know why the team is here. So, please pick this issue up and the last issue if you haven’t read it. You will definitely love this series if you’re a fan favorite of the characters or even if you’re new to them and you will like Robinson’s writing too.

Batman #28 Review –“You Are About to be Spoiled!”

Intro

Since the time Batman began in the New 52, Scott Snyder has been in a good non-stop madness! I think every single issue of Batman has been GOOD and I mean it! He’s written one of the best Batman on-goings ever! He has really taken Batman into amazing new levels that’s never been done before and luckily Zero Year has not stop that. Zero Year has been a pretty good origin story that has been a very familiar and different place and story at the same time like you never seen it before. You will see the new take on the villains and relationships born in new ways. So, I recommend you start picking up the trade of the Zero Year in the near future. It’s pretty damn good and you will love it if you’re a big Batman fan. But I strongly suggest you pick this issue up if you been out of the loop, because it digs into the future of Gotham after Forever Evil. You definitely would want to see what’s going on.

Story

Since the time after Forever Evil, the relationship of Harper Row and Batman has grown and they are about to discover the secrets of the new Kingpin of Gotham and more.

The Good

This issue is spoiler-good crazy fun. It reveals a lot of secrets, changes and surprises that gets you all giddy inside.  Harper Row’s new persona is very different and not the one you would expect. But you will grow to love it. The action is really fluid and well packed to get you excited and the new relationships of Batman, Harper Row and a few others will make you leap in exciting feats.
Dustin Nguyen’s art is just simply amazing even in his amazing painting art style the action looks great and crazy in a good way. And even though, there’s a lot going on you can actually see what’s going. It won’t feel cluttered or blurry to you at all. I also think seeing this art won’t make miss Greg Capullo’s great art either.

The Bad

Be warned, I think the many spoiled secrets revealed will cause you a few headaches filled with questions waiting to be answered on how will they get to this point. Even though, the art is good I think Dustin needs to work on the face expressions because everyone is giving the same teeth grin look all the way through.

Verdict

I give this issue a 4.5/9.5 out of 5/10 stars. This is a must pick up issue. It will definitely have you up at your feet. You will be excited where the characters are in the future and maybe love the new relationships that are going on in the story. The story here is really good and even though the art is rough on the face expressions it’s a real pleasure to enjoy especially in the action scenes. Also, there’s a return of a fan favorite character that’s never been seen in the New 52 universe. If that doesn’t make you pick it up, then I don’t know what will. But please pick this up! You will definitely have fun reading it.
